Summary & Background (
The State Purchasing Division establishes Statewide Contracts (SWCs) for the benefit of both State and Local government entities throughout Georgia. By leveraging the State's purchasing power, SPD establishes competitive statewide contracts for a variety of products, services, and equipment. State and Local governments can benefit from the convenience and competitive pricing of these pre-established contracts.
Scope of Work: To provide 50 radios and devices for investigators. These radios are for the investigators in our office who are currently borrowing radios from other law enforcement agencies like the Sheriff and APD. They need the click radios that Motorola provides when they are serving warrants, arresting, doing surveillance, doing community sweeps for witnesses, etc. There are almost 90 investigators in our office who go on daily investigative assignments and we currently have to triage the radios.
Community Impact: The office of the District Attorney has over 80 POST Certified Investigators that prepares and serves criminal process, including search warrants and arrest warrants. These law enforcement officers are often serving dangerous individuals They need to use two-way radios to communicate during emergencies, power outages or when cell phone towers are down or overloaded. Push-to-talk technology allows law enforcement officials to communicate exceedingly faster, often more so than a cell phone.
Department Recommendation: Recommends Approval
Project Implications: Currently the District Attorney’s office does not have enough radios for investigators and is borrowing radios from other Fulton County law enforcement agencies which need the return of the equipment. Should the office not receive the approval of the contract, then the investigators would not have critical communications equipment while working in dangerous situations.
