Summary & Background (First sentence includes Agency recommendation. Provide an executive summary of the action that gives an overview of the relevant details for the item.)
Scope of Work: This project will assist the Department of Arts and Culture and our project partners with the creation of video and photographic content that documents and shares the story of the Public Art Futures Lab Artist-in-Residence Program.
Background: The Public Art Futures Lab is a national first, public-private initiative that will exist in both physical and virtual space to exhibit, experiment, educate and experience art and its intersection with technology. By reducing economic, knowledge, and geographic barriers to create and participate in these emerging forms of art, the Public Art Futures Lab seeks to (1) expand access to cultural enrichment, (2) provide tools for artists to thrive in a digital economy, and (3) take a national role in leading the broader adoption of technology in the arts.
Launching in April 2022, the Artist-in-Residence Program will consist of 3 artists hosted in-person at our studio located in Underground Atlanta. The artists will be provided with the resources and space to create innovative and original experiences for Fulton County residents. Each artist will be in residence for three months and will be sponsored by a local partner. The proposed contractor will be responsible for capturing the artist’s time in the residency, highlighting the role of technology in their work, and the role of the Program’s partners in the program, and spotlighting the impact of the Program on County residents.
During the BOC March 2, 2022 meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved the Microsoft Corporation Co-Marketing Agreement. This agreement included $25,000 for the creation of video and photographic content of the Public Art Futures Lab Artist-in- Residency Program.
Community Impact: By documenting the Public Art Futures Lab Artist-in-Residence Program through professional video and photos, we will raise the profile of the County and create greater awareness of this innovative Program and opportunities available to residents.
Department Recommendation: After review, evaluation and consideration of all available information related to the requirements and evaluation criteria of the RFP, the Department of Arts & Culture recommends approval.
Project Implications: If this vendor is not approved, the County would need to either return the grant funds or resolicit the RFP. If the RFP is resolicited, the selected vendor would be appointed after the residency program starts, and thus key milestones in the Program would not recorded by the vendor.
Community Issues/Concerns: The Department of Arts and Culture is not aware of any issues/concerns regarding this agenda item.
