Summary & Background (First sentence includes Agency recommendation. Provide an executive summary of the action that gives an overview of the relevant details for the item.)

Request amendment to the Co-Marketing Agreement entered into on March 2, 2022 (Item #22-0139) and acceptance of a grant in the amount of $10,000 from Microsoft Corporation (Redmond, WA) to support facility and operational expenses of the Public Art Futures Lab, an initiative led by the Public Art Program. The amendment will:

Extend the Co-Marketing Agreement for two years from the effective date (previously 1 year).

Extend Exhibit A-1 (Marketing Plan No. 1) from December 31, 2022 to December 31, 2023.

Amend Exhibit A-1 (Marketing Plan No. 1) to include an additional contribution for $10,000 to support facility and operations expenses.

Scope of Work: The Public Art Futures Lab is a physical and online space to exhibit, experiment, educate and experience the role of technology and its intersection with public art. By reducing barriers to create and participate in these emerging forms of art, the Lab seeks to expand access to cultural enrichment for our residents, provide the tools for artists to thrive in a digital economy, and ensure Fulton County Government and the Atlanta region take a national role in leading the broader adoption of technology in the arts. While there are existing private innovation labs offered by universities, technology companies and museums, the Lab is the first Government-led space of its kind in the United States.

In April 2022, with the support of Microsoft, Underground Atlanta, MARTA Artbound and the Atlanta Art and Entertainment District the Lab was launched. To date, the initiative has hosted 3 artists-in-residence, 55 events and engaged with over 1300 residents. The grant from Microsoft will cover the cost of subsidized rent recently introduced by the owner of Underground along with on-going maintenance of the physical studio space.

Community Impact: This $10,000 grant will ensure the Lab can remain at Underground Atlanta at no cost to the County.

Department Recommendation: Acceptance of the grant and amendment of the Co-Marketing Agreement

Project Implications: Should the County decline the offer, it would limit the Department’s ability to fully support local artists and the ability to reach our residents.
