Requirement for Board Action

In accordance with Purchasing Code Section 102-394(6), the Purchasing Department shall present all renewal requests to the Board of Commissioners at least 90 days prior to the contract renewal date, or 60 days if the contract term is six (6) months or less.

Summary & Background: This contract provides towing services, tire changing, lock out assistance, and battery charging/starting services to the County’s fleet as needed, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, to include the surrounding Metropolitan Atlanta area.

 

The types of tow trucks provided under this contract are as follows:

 

  • Light-duty tow truck with the capacity to tow a vehicle with a combined gross vehicle weight of 14,000 pounds or less.
  • Medium-duty tow truck with the capacity to tow a vehicle with a combined gross vehicle weight of 10,001 to 25,999 pounds or less.
  • Heavy-duty tow truck with the capacity to tow a vehicle with a combined gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or heavier.

 

Community Impact: None that the Department is aware of.

 

Department Recommendation: The Department of Real Estate and Asset Management recommends approval. 

 

This spending authority requested for FY 2026 is a reduction of $20K from FY2025 due to DREAM’s recent purchase of a medium-duty flat-bed tow truck.  Moving forward, this contract will primarily be used for after-hours and weekend towing needs.  

 

Project Implications: This contract requires specialty tools, equipment, training, and skills. Towing and wrecker services for County fleet will not be performed in a timely or cost-effective manner if this contract is not approved.

 

Community Issues/Concerns: None that the Department is aware of. 

 

Department Issues/Concerns: If this renewal contract is not approved, the Department cannot provide sufficient towing and wrecker services for County fleet vehicles.
