Summary & Background The Alpharetta, aka Preston Ridge, Tank site contains two ground storage tanks. Alpharetta #1 is the East tank and has a volume of 1,000,000 gallons. Alpharetta #2 is the West Tank and has a volume of 500,000 gallons. These tanks provide potable water and the required minimum pressures to the City of Alpharetta portions of the County. Pressure regulation to the broader distribution system is aided thru the operation of these tanks.
Scope of Work: The Alpharetta Water Tanks Rehabilitation involves interior and exterior abrasive blasting and recoating with minor repairs of the tank walls. Both tanks will be thoroughly cleaned and s cathodic protection system will be installed. Both Alpharetta Water Tanks will be fitted with the installation of anchorages for a personal fall arrest system with safety devices located at all ladders.
Community Impact: The community will not be impacted during the construction activities under this item. Tasks will staggered at the site with an initial focus on the larger volume tank in order to have it back in service prior to the high demand periods of the year. Level of service is expected to remain unchanged.
Department Recommendation: The painting of the tanks and addition of cathodic protection is necessary to extend the operational life of the tanks. The Department of Public Works requests approval of the lowest responsible bidder for the construction services for the Alpharetta tanks.
Project Implications: This project will help extend the useful life of the Alpharetta Ground Tanks and maintain the water quality delivered to our customers.
Community Issues/Concerns: No issues/concerns have been raised by constituents or customers concerning this agenda item.
