Summary & Background (First sentence includes Agency recommendation. Provide an executive summary of the action that gives an overview of the relevant details for the item.)
The Police Department is requesting approval to purchase a Judgmental Pistol Simulator provided by InVeris Training Solutions, Inc. at $62,500.00. The system provides all of the requirements that are needed for officers’ daily training relative to today’s environment. The training system allows officers to train in close engagements where trainee interaction with the adversary is required to determine the correct level of force from less-lethal actions to lethal.
This system will be used to familiarize approximately two thousand (2,000) veteran officers per year and two hundred (200) new recruited officers in training how to respond to domestic violence, de-escalation, crisis intervention and daily public relations incidents as they occur on the job. With today’s officer involved incident this unit will be a valuable asset in training.
Street Smarts VR submitted the lowest bid but was not recommended. The Street Smarts system is 95% geared to military training which does not involve domestic violence or crisis intervention. Officer’s training should be geared more toward crimes in progress, domestic violence, robbery, theft, crisis intervention, etc. These are just a few of the topics relative to today’s current events that must be addressed and during this training.
Community Impact: Officers will be well prepared, better informed, and can cope with the day-to-day issues as they arise in the community.
Department Recommendation: The Police Department recommends approval.
Project Implications: There are no project implications.
Community Issues/Concerns: There are no community issues/concerns.
