O.C.G.A. ? 15-9-2.1 The judge of the probate court may appoint one or more persons to serve as associate judges of the probate court in probate matters on a full-time or part-time basis subject to the approval of the governing authority of the county. Such associate judges of the probate court shall serve at the pleasure of the judge of the probate court.

The Probate Judge of Fulton County has determined that the efficiency and success of the Fulton County Probate Court would be served by the appointment of an Associate Judge position to hear more contested matters due to the County's rising population, increased demand, and increased complexity of cases. This position would further allow for continuity of leadership during emergencies and for operations to continue when the Probate Judge of Fulton County is away or otherwise unable to serve. The appointment of an associate judge has been recommended by the Probate Judges' Council of Georgia for counties with over 90,000 residents.
