SUMMARY & BACKGROUND The U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance, awards Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grant funds to test the backlog of sexual assault kits across the United States in order to determine any possible DNA matches that can be investigated and ultimately prosecuted. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified over 4,000 untested or partially tested sexual assault kits housed at the GBI.
